The CLMA recognizes the urgent need to address the critical issue of climate change. With the climate crisis rapidly escalating, your association believes that we, and the sector, have a responsibility to act decisively.

The following hub has been created as a growing resource base for the Canadian live music industry, to actively engage in matters of ecological sustainability in live music. This page will be continuously updated and expanded.

GLOBAL ORGANISATIONS & RESOURCES

  • A Greener Future is a not-for-profit company helping organisations, events, festivals and venues around the world to be more sustainable and reduce environmental impacts.

  • Better Live Music is a sustainable circulation of musicians in Europe.

  • ClientEarth is an environmental law charity and one of the world's most ambitious environmental organisations.

  • Climate Action Network (CAN) is a global network of more than 1,900 civil society organisations in over 130 countries driving collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and to achieve social justice.

  • ECOLOGO Certifications are voluntary, multi-attribute, life cycle-based environmental certifications that indicate a product has undergone rigorous scientific testing and exhaustive auditing to prove its compliance with stringent, third-party environmental standards.

  • FEAT. Live is spearheading a new climate action strategy designed to reduce the emissions of live entertainment by unlocking sustainability funding through ticket sales.

  • Julie’s Bicycle is a leading not-for-profit, mobilising the arts and culture to take action on the climate, nature and justice crisis.

  • The MSA, the music industry’s green association, is the hub for the industry to learn, innovate, and collaborate to advance climate action. We provide community, science-based solutions, resources, best practices, and tools for operational change across the industry.

  • REVERB is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to empowering millions of individuals to take action toward a better future for people and the planet. REVERB partners with musicians, festivals and venues to green their concert events while engaging fans face-to-face at shows to take environmental and social action.

  • Rock the Earth has partnered with some of music’s biggest names and galvanized support for dozens of conservation issues. Through a robust base of volunteers, Rock the Earth has educated millions of music fans about environmental threats and protections.

  • The Climate Gig is a digital climate tool born out of the Dutch music scene. It enables artists, music venues, and fans to understand and take responsibility for the carbon footprint associated with traveling to and from live music events.

  • Tyndall Manchester is a vibrant and committed research community that brings together natural scientists, engineers, social scientists and economists to produce socially impactful and policy-relevant interdisciplinary research.

CANADIAN ORGANISATIONS & RESOURCES

  • Creative Green Tools Canada is a coalition of arts and environmental practitioners interested in promoting environmental stewardship in the Canadian arts and culture sector.

  • Founded in 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation is a national, bilingual non-profit organization headquartered in Vancouver, with offices in Toronto and Montreal, that woks to conserve and protect the natural environment and help create a sustainable Canada.

  • ECO Canada acts as a steward for the Canadian environmental workforce across all industries.

  • Green Festivals Canada objective is to encourage festival organizers to adopt best management practices to adaptively manage environmental impacts as well as educate vendors and participants about how they can contribute to environmental sustainability.

  • GOAL is a pioneering sustainability-driven membership and support network for sports, entertainment, and live event venues, including stadiums, arenas, theaters, and convention centers.

  • The Mariposa Folk Festival is a leader in environmental and sustainable.

  • Through its sustainable development initiatives, OSHEAGA festival Musique et Arts minimizes its impact on the environment and maximizes its positive influence on society and the local economy, showing it is indeed possible to welcome thousands of festival-goers to Parc Jean-Drapeau and reduce the festival’s environmental footprint.

  • SCALE is a network of artists, cultural practitioners, and arts organisations committed to addressing the climate emergency and environmental injustice. We coordinate and facilitate the mobilisation of art and culture in Turtle Island to create a just and regenerative world.

  • The Sustainable Events Forum was created to spark ideas and motivate people to take action on the environment through sustainable events.

  • The Winnipeg Folk Festival operates environmental sustainability programs at the annual summer Festival at Birds Hill Provincial Park, year-round at the office and at events throughout the year.
