The CLMA is the first call from government and policymakers on all matters live music. It represents the industry in conversations regarding music, culture, tourism, and business.

Your association has been working for you by consulting for government and key policymakers, sitting on roundtables, collecting data, and writing submissions highlighting the cultural, social, and economic importance of live music activity—as well as strengthening live music’s presence among key touristic businesses. Live music is a crucial thread in the Canadian cultural tapestry; it is proven to power local economies, protect cultural identities, drive tourism, and boost social and community wellness.   • The CLMA hosted insurance industry experts in a timely discussion on how insurance can best support you in the case of cancellation of your live music event.

  • Building on the success of our initial session, the CLMA hosted a 1-hour Q&A where industry experts directly addressed attendee questions on the scope of event cancellation insurance, assessing the needs of events and ensuring preparedness in the case of a cancellation.

  • The CLMA partnered with "Do.Did.Will: The Story of People Podcast" to host Tamsin Embleton, author of "Touring and Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual" and founder of the Music Industry Therapist Collective (MITC).

    In this conversation, Brent and Tamsin reflect on the high demands of live music touring. The discussion highlights practical strategies and resources to help those working in the entertainment industry identify, process, and manage the various physical and psychological difficulties that can occur on the road or as a result of touring.

  • In partnership with Good Night Out, this interactive session built capacity to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and assault at live events. The workshop was presented at the Event Safety Alliance Conference in October.

  • This workshop hosted by CLMA and Folk Music Ontario took a deep dive into “Reflections on Labour Challenges in the Live Music Industry”. With consideration to staff, contractors, and volunteers, this discussion focused on the recruitment, retention, and succession plans needed to ensure a more sustainable festival industry.

  • This training session with MyWorkplaceHealth facilitator Patricia Ruiz discussed: the factors that create a civil and respectful environment in the context of the live entertainment industry; recognizing what bias is and how to diminish it; and engaging in communication strategies.

  • This customized training session, created in partnership with Right to Be and facilitated by Senior Trainer Dax Valdes, provided participants (back of house staff, artists, live music workers) with the necessary tools to intervene when witnessing harassment in their workplace without compromising their own safety.

Developing Canada’s first-ever national Economic Impact Assessment of the live music industry, giving us data vital to telling the story of the live music industry and its potential return on investment.
