Member Spotlight: CBC Music
Who we are:
CBC Music is a proud supporter of Canadian music from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
We seek out, invest in, develop and program music from a wide range of artists and in a wide range of musical genres. We privilege and highlight Canadian music.
Through initiatives like the Canadian Music Class Challenge and Searchlight – our annual talent search, our partnerships with Polaris Music Prize and CARAS/The JUNO Awards, we are always seeking out new and emerging musicians while celebrating our stars. We are also thrilled to be part of the next round of inductions into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in Calgary this October.
Music is who we are as a people. At its most powerful, music connects and reflects us as a country. As Canada’s public broadcaster we have a unique role to play in this.
On our airwaves, CBC Music’s weekly radio program Canada Live, features exclusive, live recordings from top Canadian roots, rock, indie, jazz and world musicians, while First Play Live brings viewers intimate performances from emerging and established acts online and on television.
We are very proud of programs like Reclaimed which introduces listeners to new Indigenous artists or Marvin’s Room which explores the world of R&B. But we are equally proud of our classical music program Tempo and creating an evening mood with shows like Afterdark.
Flagship shows such as q with Tom Power and events like Canada’s largest all-Canadian festival – CBC Music Festival help to spread great Canadian music even further. In addition, our brand new consolidated digital audio offer: CBC Listen, offers over 200 free music playlists as well as on-demand and live radio shows.
CBC Music is not only a multi-genre offer. It is a multiplatform ecosystem with ‘Canadian’ at its very core. It is with partnerships like this one with the Canadian Live Music Association that we are able to continue to connect Canadians with the music that matters to them.
